In 2019, RHAK will be providing nearly $4,000 in scholarships for the winter, spring, and summer BOW workshops, in conjunction with our cooperative agreement with the Department of Fish & Game on utilization of Governor’s Tag auction revenues.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) are hands-on workshops that teach adults outdoor skills while building their confidence in their ability to get out and safely enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer. BOW helps women grow and become more confident by offering classes in an encouraging, supportive, and non-competitive learning environment. BOW classes are kept small so that participants receive plenty of one-on-one interaction with friendly, supportive instructors. No experience is necessary and BOW is for adults of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Alaska BOW has had participants ranging in age from 18 to 85. BOW attendees enjoy camaraderie with others and experience what many call a life-changing, fun-filled weekend. While BOW is targeted at women, men are welcome to participate as well.

At this time the March 8-10, 2019 winter workshop in Sutton is filled up, but the spring workshop in Southeast and the summer workshop in Fairbanks are still open for applications. Click here for schedules and registration.

Here’s what a few BOW workshop graduates have to say about the program:

“BOW has been the most empowering experience in my life. I can’t say enough about it to my girl friends.”

“Very great instructors! I felt very comfortable. I was challenged but not pushed beyond where I wanted to go.”

“What a terrific program! Great classes excellent instructors and great way to meet ladies from all over the place.”

“Very organized and planned. Thank you I learned so much.”

“Thanks for an AMAZING weekend!”

We encourage RHAK members and non-members to check out the BOW program and Beyond BOW classes offered and register for a workshop or class in your area. RHAK members will also be teaching some BOW classes.

RHAK will host free seminars this year on bear baiting, field dressing, small game hunting, using a canoe to access the backcountry, and more! Schedules to be announced on this website and our Facebook page.
